U4GM Maps the Diablo 4 Upper Rune Upgrade Path
Diablo 4 Season 15's upper rune upgrade path runs from Mal through Ist, Vex, Ohm, Lo, Ber, and Jah, with each conversion consuming two matching runes and one specific gem. When planning your
Diablo 4 runes, match both the rune names and gem quality before transmuting. The key Enigma preparation is two Lo plus one Grand Topaz for Ber, while Jah requires two Ber plus one Grand Sapphire.
The Upper Rune Upgrade Recipes
Each row below is a separate Horadric Cube recipe producing one rune. The gem changes between steps, so gathering enough runes alone does not complete the upgrade path. These are the Season 15 conversions.
Rune ingredients Gem ingredient Result
2 Mal 1 Flawless Amethyst 1 Ist
2 Ist 1 Flawless Ruby 1 Vex
2 Vex 1 Flawless Emerald 1 Ohm
2 Ohm 1 Flawless Diamond 1 Lo
2 Lo 1 Grand Topaz 1 Ber
2 Ber 1 Grand Sapphire 1 Jah
The Horadric Cube becomes available during the Lord of Hatred campaign and is accessible in Temis after unlocking it. It is a crafting station where you combine ingredients, including those used for rune transformations.
How Much Ber Should You Keep for Enigma
Keep one Ber for Enigma itself, even when you are also making Jah. Enigma requires one Common white Chest Armor, one Jah, one Ith, and one Ber; converting your only two Ber into Jah leaves the final armor recipe short of Ber.
Calculated from the upgrade recipes, making both Jah and the remaining Ber entirely from Lo takes six Lo, three Grand Topaz, and one Grand Sapphire. First, three separate conversions turn the six Lo into three Ber. Two Ber then become Jah, leaving the third Ber for the chest recipe. This calculation assumes you already have Ith and an eligible chest.
Lo is the exact rune name, not a general description of a low-level rune. Also check the gem's full name: the Ber conversion calls for Grand Topaz, while the earlier steps use Flawless gems.
Finish Ith and Choose the Chest Before Crafting
Ith uses a different conversion: three Eth produce one Ith without a gem. Starting with Tir, nine Tir can produce three Eth and then one Ith. The lower rune sequence does not connect directly to the upper sequence through a Sol-to-Mal recipe, so spare Tir cannot supply the entire route to Ber.
Choose your chest before spending the completed rune set. Enigma inherits the base item's Item Power, and an Ancestral Common chest produces an Ancestral result. Place the white Chest Armor, Jah, Ith, and Ber together in the Horadric Cube and select Transmute; this recipe is completed at the station, not by inserting the three runes into equipment sockets.
Record your missing ingredients alongside your
D4 Gold budget, then count the conversions needed from the runes you already hold. Reserve the Ber intended for Enigma and confirm your chosen chest before making the final transmutation.
