RE: HeavyMetal Map Chat with the Developer 31.10.2006 03:40 Forum: BattleTech

I've got the transcript from the chat posted for everyone to view. Please don't expect much, people; this wasn't your slick, moderated chat with neat questions and answers. This was better than a free-for-all, so let's just call it a free form-chat, okay? Anyhow, please gloss over the rather disorganized posts, and just appreciate it for what it is: A bunch of guys who enjoy CBT getting together. Without the normal pizza and beer, though. smile

Here's a link to the transcript:

HeavyMetal Map Chat with the Developer 27.10.2006 05:34 Forum: BattleTech

Thanks to Mordel (Scott Bukoski) and BattleCorps, I have a new chat room available, just in time for this weekend's chat.

What: CHAT WITH THE DEVELOPER - HEAVYMETAL MAP

Where: http://www.heavymetalpro.com/chat.htm

When: Sunday, October 29, 4 PM US EST, 3 CST, 1 PST
I believe that is 10 PM (2200) in Germany, 9 PM (2100) in the UK, 8 AM (0800) in Sydney, AU.

Hopefully, this time will allow at least a few Aussies participate without getting up TOO early, and the Germans still won't get to bed /that/ late. ;-)

(Please note that in the U.S., Sunday 10/29 is the first day OFF of daylight savings time. I'm not sure of the changes in other countries, so please consider that when stopping by. I'd hate to have you miss it. ;-)

The purpose of this chat is to answer questions about HeavyMetal Map, which just started shipping last Thursday and Friday. I figure by next Sunday, most of the pre-orders will have arrived and the new owners can give their impressions, complain if they feel the need and ask questions about areas which they are unclear. Not to mention making suggestions for improving or expanding on the program.

Please mark the chat on your calendar, and join us!

I know that some of you have been waiting with bated breath, and the time has come. You can now order HMMap through Register Now, and download the program immediately. And still get a CD, if you like. Remember, though, it's a 56 MB download, so if you elect to download it, make sure it's all there before running it. To order, just go to the web site, click on the Order button, choose Register Now and go from there. Here are some links:

Thank You, German Players! 21.10.2006 05:21 Forum: BattleTech

I've been quite surprised, and pleased, at the large proportion of HeavyMetal Map orders coming from Germany, so I just wanted to post a personal "danke!" I am a bit curious about why the proportion of HMMap orders from Germany is much higher than the other programs, and was wondering if anyone had a theory?

My thinking was that it might be more difficult, and more expensive, for those overseas to get the published map packs, so there might be more interest in making maps. Might that be it?

But whatever the reason, again, danke sehr!

Order HeavyMetal Map Now! 14.10.2006 20:52 Forum: BattleTech

HeavyMetal Map, the Official hex map design program for Classic BattleTech, is now available to be ordered, for shipment beginning October 20. This latest release in the HeavyMetal software series breaks new ground, in may design and graphics style for a HeavyMetal program. Over a year in the making, we are very pleased with the result, and think you will be too.

Please stop by and take a look at the HeavyMetal Map web page, where you can read about all the features, see lots of screenshots of its awesome graphics, and even download the full 91 page User's Guide, so you know what all you can do with the program.

I've also started a HeavyMetal Map Additional Graphics page, where users will be able to have their maps, artwork, graphics and entire palettes for use with the program posts for all to download (free) and use. There are already some additional graphics I didn't have room for, that you can add or substitute to those included with the program.

Introductory pricing through PayPal or by mail is $29 plus S&H. Downloads through Register Now are in the process of being set up and will be available within the next couple weeks. Approximately 60 MB in size, HMMap will be a healthy download.

Please note that any programs ordered along with HMMap will be shipped with HMMap, on October 20.

Come on! You know you're curious! Come by and take a look! ;-)

I just sent out another HeavyMetalPro Newsletter, with an announcement about program updates for all of the HeavyMetal programs. Yeah, I know, I just did that yesterday. But while the purpose of yesterday's release was to greatly increase the maximum number of custom weapons, I neglected to change the code to Absorb weapons from the Weapon Selection screen to allow the greater number. That's been done now, so you have yet another method of increasing your personal arsenal. ;-)

To check on the latest program updates, go to the Program Updates Page for more information.

Sorry (again) for the inconvenience.

RE: Crack for Custom Weapon Lovers 03.12.2005 22:38 Forum: BattleTech

MY BAD:

A little while ago, it was reported to me that there was a problem with the HeavyMetal Vee update. On some systems, it would hang on startup and indicate that it was not installed properly.

In fact, what I found is that I had left some testing code in place, which hard-coded the \Vehicles directory, and if you installed HMVee in anything other than the default folder, it caused the problem. And I missed it in my testing after making the update, as my installations /are/ in the default locations.

The problem is now fixed, and I have uploaded a new update for you to download. You can download it directly from the following link:

http://www.heavymetalpro.com/newfiles/hmv_v207_r1.exe

I'm very sorry for this error. Hopefully, it hasn't caused you much grief.

I just sent out the HeavyMetalPro Newsletter, with an announcement about program updates for all of the programs. If you're not already on the Newsletter mailing list, I suggest you stop on over, have a look and sign up. You will /not/ be bombarded by spam (I hate it too) but every month or so you will receive pertinent information concerning the HeavyMetal programs, changes, web site additions and newly available data files.

One thing that has been asked for for years, is an increase in the maximum number of custom weapons allowed in the database. I actually increased the number some time ago, but neglected to change the code which limits how many you can add. That has been corrected now, and you can have over 100 custom weapons for both Inner Sphere and Clan on most of the programs, rather than being limited to 40. If you're into lots of custom weapons and equipment, you'll really want to download this update!

To check on the latest program updates, go to the Program Updates Page for more information.

Most important, to check out the HeavyMetalPro Newsletter, and sign up for future updates so you always know what's going on with HeavyMetal Software, please go to the HeavyMetalPro Newsletter & Group for more information.

Okay, then we can use the hard way (as long as you're comfortable with it).

1) Start the Registry Editor (Start > Run > Regedit)

2) Search for "The Drawing Board". Although it will appear in several places, you want the one that is under:

...\VB and VBA Program Settings\Blackstone Interactive\

Usually it is under HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software

3) Under The Drawing Board, expand to Boot, then Main.

4) On the right window see the Names "Left" and "Top". These record the position that TDB starts up in when first started (and are the values that get corrupted, for some reason).

5) Right-click on Left, and choose Modify.

6) Type in "0" for the Value data.

7) Repeat 5 and 6 for Top.

cool Exit Registry Editor.

Please note that changes made in the Registry Editor are done real time, so only change the above and stay away from deleting stuff, if you don't know what you're doing.

The next time TDB starts it should be in the screen's upper left corner. Each time you exit the program, it will save the current position as your preference. If it happens again, you'll know what to do.

Hope this helps.

That is a common problem with TDB. The window is somewhere off-screen, and you need to move it back.

Right-click on the TDB button in the task bar, and choose Move. Use the up/down/left/right cursor keys to move the window back to the visible screen. It takes some trial and error.

Hope this helps.

What HeavyMetal Program Should Be Next? 27.11.2004 14:44 Forum: BattleTech

The public forum didn't work out, because I couldn't let unregistered guests vote. So I've made a new web page, and have a poll located there, so you can vote for the product of your choice. While I've limited the choices to those of immediate interest and defined scope, I think you will still find something to your liking.

Please stop by and vote, and/or add your comment, concerning what program should be next by going HERE.

Note: If you voted on the original forum page, please vote again using the link above. I had to lock the original thread, and am not counting those votes.

HeavyMetal Battle Armor Available for Pre-Order 22.11.2004 04:42 Forum: BattleTech

Hello All!

I am very pleased to announce that the much anticipated (and delayed) HeavyMetal Battle Armor is now available for pre-order by PayPal and Snail Mail! (Register Now orders will be set up to be available at the time of program release, because of the instant download through them.)

My estimated release and shipping date is December 13, 2004, just in time for Christmas. I may ship a bit earlier than that, but I'm pretty comfortable setting the 13 as the release date (especially since I'm having knee surgery that day, and need it to be ready prior to that).

Why pre-order? Mostly so that I can get all the paperwork, address labels and everything else done as early as possible, in order to not delay shipment once they are available. And as I said, if the programs are ready earlier, they will ship earlier.

So, what does HeavyMetal Battle Armor (which we call HMBA, mostly because we're tired of typing out HeavyMetal Battle Armor all the time) have that you might be interested in? A lot, I think. Here are some of the highlights:

* Designs Battle Armor to both Classic BattleTech and Classic BattleTech RPG (aka MechWarrior) rules, and prints out record sheets for both.

* Designs can include Configurations (designs, like OmniMechs, that use a base chassis, and have different weapons and equipment loadouts for the Configurations), and will print out TRO sheets will all the configurations at once. This is an exciting feature, that will form the basis for adding OmniMechs in a future version of HeavyMetal Pro.

* RPG designs include all the Attribute modifications, making it a snap to add the suit to your character.

* An incredible, new Roster screen has been added, which makes it a snap to divide up your battle armor squads and points into 1 to 5 groups per record sheet page, even specifically color code them to match the paint or markings of your minis.

* Special ammo is finally available for missile and other applicable anti-BattleMech weapons

* Over 50 official published battle armor designs are included, including all the designs from the upcoming, yet-unpublished Classic BattleTech Combat Equipment Guide! Over 50 added customs contributed by playtesters are included as well.

* Naturally, the Custom Weapons Editor is a part of the program, designing both anti-BattleMech and anti-Personnel weapons - PLUS - new weapons from the Combat Equipment Guide are included as well!

* Print Preview is available on record sheets (which are available for CBT, CBT RPG and AT2), including free zooming and panning, to see exactly what you're going to get before committing the design to paper.

Oh, BTW, Chris Waidner did the translations for the German Readme.txt and Schnellstart files. ;-)

There's much, much more, but I'll let you take a look yourself at the just posted HeavyMetal Battle Armor Page at:

http://www.heavymetalpro.com/HMBA_Features.htm

Please stop by and look at the program we have been working on for over a year and a half. A long time, yes, but we are thrilled with the results. And we hope you will be too.

Also, don't forget to take advantage of our new Free Gift Wrap when you give HeavyMetal programs to your friends! More information can be found at:

http://www.heavymetalpro.com/giftwrap.htm

I'll let you know any new developments in the HMBA release. In the meantime, have a great Thanksgiving holiday! ;-)

HeavyMetal Newsletter & Group 25.07.2004 01:34 Forum: BattleTech

I have recently added a sign-up group for a HeavyMetal Software email newsletter. This group will be used to send out newsletters, notifications of updates to the programs, new program releases and new or major updates to the HeavyMetalPro.com web site. To keep everyone's emails confidential, and provide a convenient and efficient method for doing this, a Yahoo! Group has been set up. Such emails will probably be sent out about once a month, or less often, and are intended to keep everyone informed of changes in the HeavyMetal software world.

You can sign up using any email address; all email addresses will be hidden from other members, so your privacy will be maintained. And you can unsubscribe (or re-subscribe, if you change your mind again) at any time - membership is completely under your control.

Also note that I will be sending out a one-time email to my customers announcing the group and suggesting that they sign up. Future emails will then be handled only through the group, and only to those who have signed up. So even if you have received announcement emails from us in the past, please sign up now if you would like to receive future emails.

To learn more about the above, please go to the HeavyMetal Newsletter Page.

Project Phoenix HMPro Files Available 21.03.2004 05:34 Forum: BattleTech

At long last (again) designs for Project Phoenix are now available for download in HMPro format. The pics are included as well.

Please note that the 'Mech designs included in TR: PP had already been included in Record Sheets: 3067 and Record Sheets: Upgrades. The files have now been updated with the fluff text from TR: PP, and pics from the TRO are included as well. You can download the 3067 and Upgrade zips, including the new data files, or just download the Project Phoenix designs separately. The pictures are in a separate zip file.

Shortly, HMPlus will include these updated designs and those from RS: Dark Age, as well as the Project Phoenix pictures. If you receive a copy of HMPlus before they are included, or have HMPro, simply download from the Data Files Page.

Thanks to Josh "Maverick" Helton for adding the fluff to these designs! ;-)

Record Sheets: Dark Age Designs Available! 19.03.2004 23:55 Forum: BattleTech

At long last, the files for Record Sheets: Dark Age are available. And as usual, you get more than we bargained for:

HeavyMetal Pro files for all 49 'Mechs, and HeavyMetal Vee files for all 16 vehicles, all the designs from the record sheet book are available for download. These will shortly be included with HeavyMetal Plus.

Artwork from the available dossiers, totaling 30 'Mechs and 13 vehicles are also available for download. These will shortly be included with HeavyMetal Plus.

Photos of Dark Age miniatures, totaling 66 'Mechs and 60 vehicles, are also available for download. As these are actual pics of "clicky-tech" minis, they may not have quite the overall appearl to Classic BTechers, so while they are available for download, they will not be included with HeavyMetal Plus.

Many Thanks to Terry "fitzsimons_tj" FitzSimons, Chris "Krzysztof" Highe, Rod Klatt, Eberhard "Rote Baron" v. Massenbach, Tim "Malanu" Piazzi, Nolan "Discord" Wells and Cory Zimmerman for their help researching, entering and checking these files. A special thank you to Terry, who spearheaded the project, and spent an enormous amount of time (and money) to obtain much of the fluff and most of the pictures as well. Thanks guys, for a job well done!

Please go to the Data File Download page, and have fun!

Not a weapon BV calculator, I've just posted a Battle Value Balancer Excel spreadsheet on my seb site, that you can download for free. It allows you to add up to 100 different 'Mechs for each of two forces, each with its own gunnery and piloting skill, then calculates and displays the total, corrected BV of each side. It even allows the option of including the rather complex Force Size BV modification rules from Operation: Stiletto and Operation: Flashpoint, which attempts to equalize forces of different sizes using BV.

If you don't have Excel, a link is posted on the page to download a free Excel viewer from Microsoft.

The Battle Value Balancer is located here, but please take time to look at the other Free Stuff, Fun Stuff and my new web site in general. Enjoy! ;-)
